Tuesday 9 February 2016

Today we woke up with only three alarms instead of six. After a delicious breakfast (with Nutella!) we went to Fremantle prison. It was very interesting but some of the stories where really horrifying. We learned a lot about early colonial history, the teachers even noticed we had never been so quiet on this trip. The guide showed us several prison cells, and told us about the riots and the punishments. Ayla may be aspiring a job in criminology as she kept asking questions to the guide.
After that we enjoyed the air-conditioning and a good sandwich in the convict café.
The round house was our next stop. Unfortunately there was no ‘shooting of the canon’. It was boiling hot up there, but the people were friendly and welcoming again. The guide told us lots of stories and as half the group was slowly melting in the heat, he kept on talking, eyes on Ms Tytgat (she was probably the only one who understood a bit of the Aussie accent).  We went to cool down in the tunnel under the round house, but it didn’t really help.
Then it was off to Fremantle war memorial, beautifully located on top of a hill with views of Fremantle. Ms Tytgat told us about the War Memorial and some stories of soldiers. Then Camille read her poem and we held our one-minute silence.
We decided to head for Bunbury, so after a two-hour-drive we arrived there. Ms Tytgat decided to follow into Ms Wijnakker’s footsteps so she mistyped the address in the GPS-system so we made a little detour. Remember the tandem trip ;) When we got here we were very disappointed with the accommodation (no airco! And small rooms) but we are trying to get the best out of it.
We decided that it was time we ate something so we went to a little café on the corner of the street. The food was very yummy it was so good that were going tomorrow again to eat breakfast. When we left we noticed the newspaper and saw our faces on p.10! We are famous!

So now here we are in  our tiny place typing this. Goodnight everyone!
